It's strange to be back in Portland... We're not uncomfortable here by any means - Portland feels like home in many ways and navigating the streets here is second nature. However, it's a little bit unnerving to be walking the same paths we did in college, especially when we visited the Lewis & Clark campus. It's so familiar that, from a visual standpoint, we could believe that we'd only been gone a day rather than a year. But we saw, did, learned, and grew so much in that time that we can't relate to Portland (much less to LC) the same way that we used to.
Despite the butterflies in our stomach and the dream-like feel of everything, it's been comforting to come back. We can try to come to terms with the reality of our experience in Korea and how it has shaped us. We were able to catch up with many of the wonderful people that we knew in college. And we got to eat at Queen of Sheba. (And that made our long Amtrak trip worthwhile).
We spent our time (aside from visiting friends and our wonderful German advisor) walking through campus, Tryon, and downtown (especially along the waterfront). Photos will be uploaded whenever I catch up. Hopefully soon.
Tomorrow, we leave at noon for Seattle, then Eastward-bound are we.
